Before and after

Where payroll usually hurts

  • Before

Payroll lives in a spreadsheet. The SIF is put together by hand, the bank rejects it over one wrong IBAN or a total that does not add up, and salaries go out late.

    With Mira HR

The WPS-ready SIF is built from the approved run. Every line is validated before you download the file, and its totals are reconciled against the run.

  • Before

Every resignation means working out Article 51 gratuity by hand: which years count at 21 days, which at 30, and where the cap starts.

    With Mira HR

Gratuity is calculated from the service record and basic wage, with the 24-month cap applied, and waits for the owner's approval before it is paid.

  • Before

Egyptian tax brackets and NOSI caps change, and each change means reworking spreadsheet formulas and hoping nobody missed a cell.

    With Mira HR

Income tax across seven brackets, NOSI contributions with the 2026 caps and the Martyrs' Fund levy are calculated inside the run, with rules stored by the date they apply from.

Features

Everything a payroll month needs

A monthly run for each legal entity

Each legal entity gets its own run. A Dubai company and a Cairo company close their months separately, each in its own currency, on the same employee records your HR team already keeps. A run moves from calculate to approve to pay, and if something turns out wrong after approval but before payment, the owner rolls the run back so you can fix the data and calculate again.

  • One board per legal entity and month: calculate, approve, pay
  • Roll back an approved run before payment and recalculate
  • Retro corrections when a salary change reaches back into a closed month
  • No second employee database to keep in sync with HR

Salary packages with effective dates

A package holds the basic salary and the allowances your contracts use, such as housing or transport, together with the date it takes effect. A raise agreed today for next month is entered once, and each run picks up the package that was valid for its period. In Egypt, many offers are agreed as a take-home amount: mark the package as net, and Mira HR grosses it up to the salary that pays exactly that net after tax and social insurance.

  • Basic salary and allowances in one package
  • Effective dates, with the history of every change kept on record
  • Net-salary packages for Egypt with automatic gross-up

WPS-ready SIF files, checked before they leave

When a UAE run is approved, Mira HR generates the Salary Information File for the Wage Protection System: an SCR record for the employer and an EDR line for each employee. Each line is validated before you download the file, and the file totals are reconciled against the run, so a mismatch shows up on your screen rather than as a rejection from the bank a day before payday.

  • SIF with SCR and EDR records, built from the approved run
  • Per-line validation of IBAN, routing code and MOL ID
  • Checksum reconciliation between the file and the run
  • GPSSA contributions for UAE nationals, switched on per employee

Egyptian income tax and social insurance

For Egyptian entities, the run applies progressive income tax across seven brackets with the personal exemption, and calculates the Martyrs' Fund levy. The phase-out of the lower brackets for high annual incomes is not applied automatically yet, so review those payslips manually. Social insurance follows NOSI: 11 % from the employee and 18.75 % from the employer, within the 2026 caps. Rates and caps are stored with the date they apply from, so a rule change next year does not rewrite the months you have already paid.

  • Income tax: seven brackets and the personal exemption
  • Martyrs' Fund levy at 0.05 %, calculated in every run
  • NOSI: 11 % employee, 18.75 % employer, 2026 caps
  • Gross-up for net-salary packages

Final settlements and UAE gratuity

When someone leaves, the final settlement goes through an off-cycle run, so you do not wait for month-end or squeeze it into the regular payroll. For the UAE, gratuity follows Article 51: 21 days of basic wage for each of the first five years, 30 days for each year after that, capped at 24 months. The amount is sent to the owner for approval before it is paid. Unused leave is encashed, overtime from approved timesheets is included when you use Time & Attendance, and the value of unreturned company assets can be deducted.

  • Article 51 gratuity: 21 or 30 days per year, 24-month cap
  • Owner approval before the gratuity is paid
  • Leave encashment and asset deductions in the final settlement
  • Off-cycle run for the final settlement, outside the monthly calendar

Payslips and expense claims in self-service

Employees open their payslips in self-service and download them as PDF, in Arabic too, with a font that renders Arabic properly instead of empty boxes. Expense claims go through approval and are reimbursed in payroll, so nobody has to chase finance for a taxi receipt.

Steps

How a payroll month works

  1. 1

    Set up packages

Enter basic salary and allowances for each employee with an effective date. Egyptian net offers are entered as net.

  2. 2

    Calculate

Calculate the run. With Time & Attendance, the run waits until timesheets are approved and takes overtime straight from them; tax and social insurance are calculated by the rules of each country.

  3. 3

    Approve

Check the totals and approve the run. Until it is paid, the owner can still roll it back for a recalculation.

  4. 4

    Pay

Download the WPS-ready SIF for your UAE bank, and payslips appear in employees' self-service.

FAQ

Payroll questions

Which countries does Mira HR payroll cover?

The UAE and Egypt, and only those two. Everything on this page, from WPS files to Egyptian income tax, is built for these two jurisdictions. If you have legal entities in other countries, Mira HR cannot run their payroll today.

Is payroll part of the free plan?

No. Teams of up to 3 people can use Core HR for free, but payroll is not included in the free plan. Paid plans are priced per employee per month; the pricing page has the details.

What format is the WPS salary file?

A Salary Information File (SIF): one SCR record with the employer details and totals, and one EDR record per employee. Mira HR validates each line and reconciles the totals with the approved run before you upload the file to your bank or WPS agent.

How is UAE gratuity calculated?

By Article 51 of the UAE Labour Law: 21 days of basic wage for each of the first five years of service and 30 days for each year after that, with the total capped at 24 months. Mira HR calculates it in the final settlement and sends it to the owner for approval before it is paid.

Can Mira HR produce a salary bank file for Egypt?

Coming soon. A bank transfer file for Egypt is planned as a CSV layout. Egyptian banks use different formats, so verify the layout with your bank before the first upload. Until then, Egyptian payroll is calculated in Mira HR and paid through your usual banking process.

What if we find a mistake in a month that is already closed?

Use a retro correction. Correct the salary package with an earlier effective date, and Mira HR calculates the pay difference for the closed period and adds it to the next run; the closed month stays exactly as it was paid.

Can payslips be in Arabic?

Yes. Payslips are generated as PDF with a font that supports Arabic, and employees open and download them in self-service. The Mira HR interface itself works in Arabic, right to left, as well as in English.

UAE WPS doesn't check that you paid. It checks the proof

WPS rejections rarely mean the money didn't move. They mean the payment file disagreed with the labor contract on record — so the salary counts as unpaid.
